Title: Forfeit
Author:
quiesce
Author's website: fic index post
Pairing: Jeremy/Natalie
Rating: G
Category: het, fluff, ficlet
Summary: Jeremy totally forgot.
From the noon rundown until 6pm, Natalie acted hopeful and expectant. Between 6:00 and 8:00, she seemed distant and Jeremy wondered if she was avoiding him. After the 8pm rundown, she appeared to be pissed off and after 10, she was openly hostile.
As Kim gave the five minute call, Jeremy took Natalie's arm and led her to a relatively empty stretch of hallway by Editing.
"Have I done something wrong?"
"Maybe."
Jeremy hated this game. And he said so. "If I don't know what I've done, I can't apologize for it."
"Did you forget today was Valentine's Day?" Natalie poked a finger at his chest.
"Oh." Guilt flashed across Jeremy's face before he caught himself. "Maybe I didn't forget. Maybe I think it's silly to celebrate love just because two kids got engaged hundreds of years ago today."
Natalie's glare didn't waver.
"And maybe I don't need a special day to tell you I love you. I love you every day. The only reason why today is any different is because card companies tell us it's different and maybe I don't think I should feel obligated to buy something with hearts on it because some faceless corporation wants me to."
Natalie switched to her patented "oh, please" face.
Jeremy caved and clasped his hands in front of him, pleading. "I totally forget today was Valentine's Day and didn't get you anything. I apologize and to make up for it, I forfeit my turn and you can choose what we do in bed tonight."
Natalie grinned. She rose to her toes and pulled Jeremy's head down to kiss him on the forehead. "Was that so hard?"
They rushed back to the control room at the two minutes to air call and spent the entire show flashing each other wide smiles.
